Here is a little insight into our in house special project, we jammed a big bore 690 into a 2015 RC 390. It was so succesful that it got 2nd in its first ever race! Here are a few specs to make you dream.
  • 290lbs wet
  • 70hp
  • 60ft lbs
  • Uses all RC 390 spares
  • 690 duke wheels and brakes 120/165
  • Ride by wire superbike harness
  • 3mm big bore making it a 732cc

Love it! My wife has a RC390, and I've been dreaming of the day KTM comes out with a 690 version just like they have the Duke 390/690. Willing to share any more info on what the process was?

How easy did the LC4 engine fit, what sort of mods did you do to frame?

You can see in the pic with the fairings off that a good chunk of the frame was removed and replaced. I'm guessing a good amount of work went in to getting everything to line up properly.

I had the opportunity to watch this bike on the track last weekend and it did not disappoint. Even with the older generation motor it put in a great fight against the +20k Kramers. Hats off to Superpacman13 for getting this bike together and making it work so well.

Ill answer any questions you may have.
Now I wonder, would the 790 fit?
absolutely not, the 690 has about 1/8th of an inch on both sides of the head.

See above
Let me ride this.
Get your dang novice license and we'll talk!
Real question is would you build another for a price?
How much do you wanna pay? Its not easy or cheap. Finding a complete 690 is the hard part.

What modifications did you have to make to the frame? Any close-up pics of that? Motor mounts?

Cut the 390 motor mounts out entirely. The 690 uses the swingarm mount so you have to gut the internals between the two main framerails and make it the correct width. Remake the front mount to mimic the 690 duke one as well. You also have to make a fairly complex piece to tie the frame to the lower rear mounts. Ill take pictures next time the bodywork is off.

Ran the bike again last weekend, it absolutely hauls the mail! Went head to head with the Kramers and didn't really give up much, we are still a touch down on power but as long as I can draft we are good!

I smell a kit in the making!!! :)

If KTM isn't going to give us the fuel injected 250 XC-W TPI 2-stroke here in the US, then maybe some of us will spend more time considering following in your footsteps and cram the 690 in... tho I would SOOOO much rather have that TPI!

TPI is coming in the 250-300 this year.
