RC390 Update to leaking oil - Crack in engine case

Thanks for the advice, I will check into this again. It seems from the oil location that it is seeping from a crack - not sure how it could travel from the shift seal. But it's worth a shot still. Thanks,

RC390 Update to leaking oil - Crack in engine case

I checked today, basically the JB-weld formed the same exact crack as on the case underneath it. Maybe it's a high stress zone of the engine when it's vibrated and prone to weakness there? I am going to get a quote for how much it would be to do a proper aluminum weld job at that spot.

RC390 Update to leaking oil - Crack in engine case

So I rode it tonight (24 hours) and it is still leaking. Back to the drawing board with this one, oh well.

RC390 Update to leaking oil - Crack in engine case

From what i've read it handles vibrations fine, just not high heat+vibration (e.g. exhaust manifold). I think the rear engine case has a pretty good chance of being a strong fix. I will ride tomorrow afternoon to see if it lasts a day at least...

RC390 Update to leaking oil - Crack in engine case

And after the JB-weld, I will admit it's not pretty but honestly don't care too much. The only thing I was worried about was JB-welding the engine to the frame where the rearsets through-bolt goes through. But oh well!

RC390 Update to leaking oil - Crack in engine case

Ok JB-weld gets here today and I have been prepping the area: I took a light dremmel to the surface and scuffed it up. I am cleaning it with Kerosene too. I am planning on just applying a bunch of JB-weld to the entire area, and cleaning it up so it looks as good as it can.

RC390 Update to leaking oil - Crack in engine case

Unfortunately my newly bought RC 390 has a bit of an oil leak. Using UV oil and light I was able to see clearly where it came from, right near the rearset through-bolt! How would you guys proceed from here? Repair the case at a shop/dealership, use JB weld to patch it up, other techniques? Any...

RC390 Leaking oil from rearset throughbolt??

I finally got around to doing this, and unfortunately some bad news. I found there is a small hairline crack in the rear engine case, near the rearset through-bolt I was talking about before. The crack is about the length of a pink fingernail, and has a similar curvature. Pictures to come...

RC390 Leaking oil from rearset throughbolt??

Thanks I will give this a shot! I am almost certain it's engine oil, question is exactly where.

RC390 Leaking oil from rearset throughbolt??

Thanks for all the replies guys. I know the pictures don't capture it very well, but it is definitely leaking oil after a short ride, it drips down the side of the engine case in this picture: The only reason you can't see it profusely is that I clean it regularly and just did a clean oil...

RC390 Leaking oil from rearset throughbolt??

Hey guys, New to this forum and my RC390, it has about 7K miles on it. I just bought it and doing all the regular maintenance and noticed a small leak. It seems to come from the M10 screw bold that goes through the rearsets + frame + engine. Pictures below, any help would be greatly...
