Which bike?

Hi all
This might sound weird, but it's a serious question.
I'm thinking of replacing my commuter bike due to a change of commute. I'm going from 30 miles into town to a more rural 20 mile commute so was thinking about changing my current Honda NC700X. Reading the reviews of the new BMW R1200R rekindled my desire for once since before I got my licence 9 years ago. But my girlfriend said I've got plenty of time in the future to be riding an old man's bike so I started thinking about an RC390 (also bike I've been looking forward to since I heard about it a year or 2 ago).
So what should I go for? a 2005ish R1200R or a new RC390, they are about the same price although I expect the BMW to retain it's value better.

Dang, Stu, you and I must be cousins. There are several of us on here that had/have D675s. I've spent a buncha time on R1200Rs. As a commuter, I'd go that direction hands down over the RC390, given that I've not ridden one. But horses for courses, having a little bigger dog for the daily slog would be my choice.
